The Paulownia tree, originally known as Kiri, was first discovered in Japan. It arrived in Europe in 1835 thanks to the efforts of Philipp Franz Von Siebold, a well-known collector of Japanese plants.
In recognition of the contribution of Imperial Grand Duchess Anna Pavlovna, Von Siebold gave the tree a new name, 'Paulownia'.
The Imperialis collection presents a wide range of opulent inlaid designs made from this precious wood.
In various art deco designs, the wood veneer is delicately placed on a golden background.
Wood is also used in its purest form to show the elegance of simple geometries.
